Motorcyclist killed in crash is identified
The man who died when his motorcycle veered off a road in Koloa on Wednesday has been identified as Byron Hahn-Morin, 21, of Wai•mea.
Hahn-Morin was traveling west on Koloa Road when he apparently went off the road at a sharp curve, according to a preliminary police investigation.
Hahn-Morin was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
The crash remains under police investigation.
Koloa Road was closed in both directions for about two hours.
Woman handed 5-year sentence for vandalism
A 32-year-old Lihue woman was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for smashing an ATM and a glass window at a Longs Drug store with an aluminum baseball bat nearly a year ago, the Garden Island newspaper reported.
Patricia Lewis pleaded no contest Aug. 20 to second-degree criminal property damage for the two acts of vandalism that occurred Dec. 19 at Kukui Grove Center.
Kauai Circuit Judge Kathleen Wata•nabe also ordered Lewis to pay $3,960 in restitution to American Savings Bank, which owns the ATM, and $576.38 to Longs.
The judge suspended two years and 10 months of the sentence.
Man arrested for violating his probation
Hawaii County police arrested a 22-year-old Pahoa man Thurs•day in Kala•pana on bench warrants for violating his probation.
Police also were seeking Airiel Jost for questioning in two robbery cases.
