87 collisions logged in 12 hours on Sunday
A typically busy Sunday on Oahu roads produced a typically high number of traffic collisions across the island.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., there were 87 traffic collisions on Oahu, according to the Honolulu Police Department log.
Evidence of the everyday rash of insurance headaches was evident in Aiea, where traffic on the H-1 freeway was backed up in both directions around 1 p.m. due to separate accidents on both sides of the roadway.
About an hour and a half later, at least four cars were involved in a chain-reaction fender bender in the eastbound lanes of Kalanianaole Highway near the intersection with Kuliouou Road.
No life-threatening injuries were reported in any of the day’s collisions.
Waikiki assault lands 2 victims in hospital
A 23-year-old Kalihi man was arrested after two men were assaulted outside a Waikiki nightclub early Sunday morning, sending the victims to the hospital, police said.
The incident occurred on the sidewalk along Kuhio Avenue around 3:55 a.m., according to police records. Officers arrested the suspect around 4:25 a.m. near 2301 Kuhio Ave. on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault.
The victims, ages 23 and 22, were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Police did not give their condition.
2 arrested after burglary in Kailua area
Police arrested an 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man after a burglary in the Kailua area early Sunday.
According to police records, two women, one 52 years old and the other 19, were victims of a burglary at 12:01 a.m.
Officers arrested the suspects at about 1:20 a.m. The woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary and the man on suspicion of second-degree assault.
No other details were available.
