Body recovered from truck plunge on Kauai
The body of a Wainiha man was recovered Friday afternoon in a pickup truck that ran off a cliff and fell into waters off Kuhio Highway in Haena on Kauai.
The man had been driving a Dodge pickup truck north on Kuhio Highway when he apparently veered off the roadway and fell about 20 feet off a cliff, Kauai police said in a news release. A bystander reported it to police about 7:15 a.m.
Police and firefighters found the man unresponsive inside the truck. Police believe he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while crews recovered the body and the pickup.
This was the fifth Kauai traffic fatality this year.
