It’s been announced that the hit musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" is heading to Las Vegas; however, where it will land is still unknown. With ticket sales dwindling for the Broadway production, the final curtain is set to fall there in January, with plans for a Las Vegas debut sometime in 2015.
Where will it land? The smart money is on the Venetian. At a cost of $75 million, the lavish production is the most expensive show in Broadway history, so it will need a theater capable of housing a show of its magnitude. The Venetian theater, which was built for the Las Vegas run of "Phantom of the Opera," appears to fit the bill. "Spider-Man" producers proclaimed "we can have a more exciting and better show in Las Vegas."
» Big prime: For one of the biggest prime ribs in town, check out the coffee shop at Jerry’s Nugget in North Las Vegas. There are three choices — the English cut is eight to 10 ounces for $13.89; the thick cut is 28-30 ounces for $20.89, and the double cut is a 48-ounce monster for $41.89. All come with a salad, baked potato and garlic toast and are served 24/7. Be prepared to attract stares.
» Big rent: Talk about expensive digs. It’s been reported that Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn pays rent of $43,730 per month to live in his three fairway villas in Wynn Las Vegas. The villas are a combined 9,745 square feet.
QUESTION: What is Thanksgiving like in Las Vegas?
ANSWER: It’s not the biggest four-day weekend of the year, but it’s still busy. All of the major casinos will have turkey specials, both in the buffets and other restaurants. In fact, a survey by Foursquare named the Wicked Spoon Buffet at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas the most popular venue in the U.S. for eating out on Thanksgiving. The sports books will also be jumping with football action on the big screens.
