Salt Lake woman struck, killed by SUV
An 83-year-old Salt Lake woman died after she was hit by a sport utility vehicle Wednesday near Ala Napuaa Place and Ala Ilima Street.
A 62-year-old Salt Lake man was driving a Ford Explorer at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday when the SUV hit the woman, who was crossing the street — the name of which police did not specify.
The woman was taken initially in serious condition to a hospital, where she later died.
Man charged in burglary of Aiea home
Prosecutors on Wednesday charged a man with the burglary of a 69-year-old man’s Aiea apartment earlier this month.
The incident occurred Nov. 8, when a man entered an apartment without permission and took items that were inside, police said.
Alexander Mar, 33, who has no local address, was arrested at Oahu Community Correctional Center and charged with first-degree burglary.
Suspect held in Ewa assault incident
Police arrested a 44-year-old man Wednesday evening for allegedly punching another man who was sitting in a vehicle in Ewa Beach.
Police said the suspect struck a 50-year-old man at about 4:45 p.m. in Ewa Beach, then fled. According to police documents, officers found the suspect about 90 minutes later and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree violent unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Maui woman dies after truck veers, crashes
A Makawao woman died Thursday after the pickup truck she was driving went off a road in Upcountry Maui.
Giuliana Johnson, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Maui police said.
The 2001 Ford Ranger she was driving was traveling south on Pau Hana Road and failed to make it around a turn, went off the road and through a fence fronting a residence and struck an unoccupied vehicle, police said.
Police said Johnson was not wearing her seat belt, and the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. Police said speed is suspected as a factor in the crash.
Fitness program serves adults of all levels
The Maui County Office on Aging will host an open house for the launch of its EnhanceFitness program in South Maui.
The open house is set for 12:15 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Maui Powerhouse Gym, 1279 S. Kihei Road. The public is welcome to pick up a registration packet and meet the instructors and other class participants.
EnhanceFitness classes are designed to meet the physical activity needs of adults of all fitness levels from unfit to active, according to a county news release.
The goals of EnhanceFitness include maintaining or improving cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, balance and flexibility; overall physical function; and lowering health care costs.
