Woman hit by SUV in Salt Lake is identified
The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 83-year-old Salt Lake woman who died Wednesday after she was hit by a sport utility vehicle as Matilde Cabanero.
The accident occurred at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday on Ala Napuaa Place near Ala Ilima Street.
A 62-year-old Salt Lake man was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer when the SUV hit Cabanero, who was crossing Ala Napuaa Place. The driver was not injured.
Cabanero was taken initially in serious condition to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said it is unknown whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. An autopsy will be conducted today to determine cause of death.
This was Oahu’s 54 traffic fatality of 2013, compared with 52 at the same time last year.
Kona man charged in area burglaries
A Kailua-Kona man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses that occurred in Kailua-Kona between October and November.
Patrol officers arrested Tucker Henry Bontecou, 22, Sunday for the theft of items from a retail outlet in Keauhou. Bontecou was also arrested for promoting a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section and Vice Section continued the investigations in conjunction with three residential burglaries in which Bontecou was a suspect. The burglaries occurred between Oct. 7 and Nov. 6.
Detectives executed a search warrant on a vehicle driven by Bontecou.
On Tuesday, detectives charged Bontecou with one count of fourth-degree theft, two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of drug paraphernalia, three counts of burglary, one count of first-degree theft, six counts of second-degree theft and three counts of second-degree forgery. His bail was set at $46,250.
Bontecou was held at the Kona police cellblock.
1 killed, 1 hurt when boom truck overturns
A man died and another man was taken to a hospital by helicopter after a boom truck accident in Waikoloa on Hawaii island.
Fire officials responded at 11:27 a.m. Friday to the call and found a man thrown from a boom truck and another pinned in it.
The truck apparently turned over after going off the road and up an embankment, Hawaii County fire officials said.
Officials said the man thrown from the truck died, but the other man was extricated and did not seem to have serious injuries. He was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
Man arrested in vandalism of limousine
A Honolulu police officer caught a vandal allegedly etching on a limousine window early Thursday morning,
Police said the officer saw a 23-year-old man vandalizing the limo window at 12:55 a.m. on a road in the Ala Moana area.
The officer arrested the suspect on suspicion of criminal property damage.
