Hawaii’s Chan, Lam pick up tennis wins
University of Hawaii men’s tennis players Marcel Chan and Carter Lam both won their singles and doubles matches against Washington on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. No team tally was kept.
Chan and Lam teamed up to beat Gal Hakak and Wendell Watanabe 8-0. UH’s Chris Meyer and David Schuster defeated Dragos Puscalau and Rishabh Raman 8-5.
In singles matches, Chan defeated Watanabe 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, and Lam defeated Puscalau 6-2, 6-1. Nils Schuhmann had UH’s other win at singles, 6-2, 6-4 over Hakak.
Brigham Young-Hawaii routs Hawaii Hilo
Seven players scored in double figures as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated Hawaii Hilo 99-79 in a Pacific West conference game on Saturday in Laie.
Jordan Ngatai scored 17 points, DeAndre Medlock had 16 and Scott Friel scored 13 for the Seasiders (2-3, 1-1). Cory Lange and Luke Aston had 12 points each, Robbie Mitchell scored 11 and Pablo Coro had 10 for BYUH, which led 47-36 at halftime. The Seasiders led by as many as 26 points midway through the second half.
Yevgeniy Dyachenko scored 22 points, Joey Rodriguez had 12 and Darnell Williams added 11 for the Vulcans (3-4, 0-1).
