Authorities seek return of murder suspect for trial

The 46-year-old man suspected of killing Alexis Gonzales, whose dismembered body was found Sept. 15 off Mili­lani Memorial Park Road in Wai­pio, is facing extradition from Cali­for­nia to face murder charges in Hawaii.

A U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force helped arrest Bryan Suitt at 3:45 p.m. Monday at his family’s residence on Coro­nado Island in San Diego, according to the U.S. Marshals Service in Hawaii.

The suspect was booked at the San Diego County Jail Monday and will later face a Cali­for­nia state court extradition hearing so he can be returned to Hawaii to face the murder charge, the marshals office said.

On Nov. 26 an Oahu grand jury indicted Suitt on a second-degree murder charge.

The suspect is being held on a grand jury warrant with bail set at $5 million, police said.

Gonzales’ dismembered and decomposing body was found Sept. 15 in a ravine off Mili­lani Memorial Park Cemetery Road in Wai­pio by Wai­anae couple Joseph and Sheer Sotelo, who were looking for cans and bottles near the road.

Police released photos of the victim’s tattoos, seeking the public’s help to identify him.

The Honolulu Police Department asked the U.S. Marshals Service for help, since Suitt lives on the mainland.

Police have not revealed a motive for the killing.
