Hawaii senior Emily Hartong earned one more honor from the Big West, securing her fourth Player of the Week Award of the season. It is the eighth weekly BWC honor of Hartong’s career.
Hartong was named Big West Player of the Year for the second time Monday.
The All-American averaged six kills a set and hit .421 in the Wahine’s sweeps at UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton last week.
Hartong is trying to become the second Wahine in three years — after Kanani Danielson — to win volleyball’s Senior CLASS Award. She is one of 10 national finalists for the award, which recognizes student-athletes who have "notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition." Fans can vote through Monday at seniorCLASSaward.com. Hartong and Florida’s Chloe Mann are dominating the vote and are separated by less than a percentage point.
» Wahine volleyball, with a little help from its athletic department and upper campus, is offering free tickets to the first 400 UH Manoa students who go to Friday’s NCAA Tournament first-round match between Hawaii and Idaho State. The tickets will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center box office with a valid UH Manoa student ID.
If Hawaii wins Friday, 400 more free tickets will be available to UH Manoa students for Saturday’s 7 p.m. second-round match. Those will be at the box office beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.
When the complimentary ticket allotment is gone, UH Manoa students can purchase a student single-day ticket at a discounted price of $5. A UH Manoa student ID and tournament ticket will be required for entry.
» The NCAA officially blacks out information on television coverage until 24 hours before an event. But OC Sports acknowledges it has "expressed interest" in showing Hawaii’s subregional "and is prepared to do it." It has broadcast all Wahine home matches this year.
