Investigators suspect arson in Maui fires
Authorities are investigating two fires that were apparently set deliberately less than two hours apart at Maui High School.
The Maui News reported Saturday that investigators found incendiary devices, including a drum of motor oil, at the school.
According to fire officials, firefighters responded to the first incident around 5:30 a.m. Friday and found the 55-gallon drum on its side.
Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga says there were about 15 gallons of oil on the ground and it appears someone tried to ignite the barrel.
Mainaga says the second fire took place around 7 a.m. in another campus building. That fire caused about $5,000 in structural damage.
Authorities say nobody was injured.
