Director Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire," "Almost Famous") is trying to wrap his Hawaii-based film but has run into a casting snag for one of his final scenes: He needs about 200 background extras who could pass for East Indians.
The pivotal scene in Crowe’s untitled film would be shot the evening of Dec. 20. No specific filming location was available, but the scene will be in India, according to Rich King Casting.
Crowe needs all ages, shapes and sizes. Experience is not necessary. Members of the SAG/AFTRA union will earn $148 for an eight-hour shift, and nonunion extras will receive $70 for the shift.
Interested extras can stop by Crowe’s local production office, 930 Mapunapuna St., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., today through Friday. They can also email a photo, clothing sizes and contact information to RichKingCastingHawaii@gmail.com. Potential extras are encouraged to apply soon because everyone will need to be fitted with a costume.
Crowe has been filming on Oahu since September. His film stars Bradley Cooper as a former Air Force airman who is now a military contractor. Cooper’s character returns to the site of one of his greatest triumphs, Hickam Field in Hawaii, and reconnects with a former lover, played by Rachel McAdams. However, Cooper’s character unexpectedly falls in love with an airman played by Emma Stone.
