Food Pantry to buy 12 gift store leases
Food Pantry Ltd. said Wednesday it is finalizing an agreement with Outrigger Shops Ltd. to purchase the leases and operating assets of its 12 hotel gift and sundry stores on Oahu. Ten of the Outrigger Shops stores operate under the name of Ku’ai Market while the others are called Makana Trading Co. and Ali’i Market, respectively.
The agreement is expected to be finalized in February, and stores will continue to operate under their current names. No purchase price was disclosed. Locally owned Outrigger Shops is operated by President and CEO Steve Norstrom and is not part of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts. The shops are at various hotels in Waikiki and near the airport. The approximately 60 affected employees have been encouraged to apply for employment at Food Pantry.

RevoluSun cap fulfills isle student’s wish
Honolulu-based solar company RevoluSun will outfit its installers with sun-safe caps designed by a Maryknoll sixth-grader who produced the line of hats as part of a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Skylar Soares, who has been diagnosed with lupus, used her wish to open her own retail business called
Hi Sky. Soares, whose condition requires here to wear a hat to minimize her sun exposure, wanted to use the brand to educate children about the importance of being safe in the sun. The cap includes a piece of cloth in the back that protects the wearer’s neck from the sun.
