Central Washington edges HPU
Central Washington’s Jasmine Parker made a tie-breaking layup with nine seconds left and the Wildcats held on for a 72-68 win over Hawaii Pacific in a nonconference women’s basketball game on Monday in Ellensburg, Wash.
Morganne Comstock led HPU with 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field. She also grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked four shots. Skye Savini finished with 16 points and Laken McClelland added 15 off the bench.
Jessica VanDyke led Central Washington with 19 points. Parker contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Sea Warriors and Wildcats meet again today at Nicholson Pavilion.
MacKenzie signs with Sea Warriors
Breanna MacKenzie, a 5-foot-8 guard from Box Hill, Australia, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Hawaii Pacific in 2014-15.
She is the first signee for next season for Sea Warriors coach Reid Takatsuka. MacKenzie, a four-sport athlete at Box Hill Senior Secondary College, is averaging 14 points, 4.1 assists, 3.4 steals and nearly eight rebounds this season.
