Obamas leave for isles today
The White House says President Barack Obama and his family are due to leave Washington today aboard Air Force One and arrive in Honolulu on Saturday just after midnight for their annual vacation.
The president doesn’t have any public events scheduled during his time back in the islands. But he might attend the Oregon State basketball game on Sunday. The Beavers’ coach, Craig Robinson, is Michelle Obama’s brother.
Obama is expected to stay in the same Kailua neighborhood where he has spent the year-end holidays since he was president-elect. In previous years, the president has played golf, worked out at the Marine base, visited Hanauma Bay and ventured into Kailua town for shave ice.

U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa has been endorsed by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, Local 142, in her race for the U.S. Senate.
"Throughout her career, Colleen Hanabusa has fought for organized labor and advocated on behalf of our members and their families," Donna Domingo, local president, in a news release. "As an attorney, former Hawaii state Senate president, and two-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Colleen has always put the needs of hard working families first and taken strong positions against those seeking to reduce workers’ rights. She will continue her fight for us in the U.S. Senate and we are very proud to support the Waianae girl who will protect and preserve our Hawaii values." ILWU Local 142 represents nearly 18,000 members in Hawaii.
"The members of the ILWU have been an important part of my life for more than three decades," Hanabusa said. "I represented them as an attorney and I have always fought for their members and their families."
Hanabusa is challenging Sen. Brian Schatz, appointed by the governor to fill the term of the late Dan Inouye.
CORRECTION: There are nearly 18,000 International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142 members in Hawaii. An early version of this story and the story about ILWU Local 142 endorsing U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa for the U.S. Senate on Page A20 Friday reported there were 1,800 members.
