Ala Moana Center retailer Gilly Hicks is closing on or by Jan. 14.
The New Albany, Ohio-based intimate apparel retailer, in a mandatory notice to the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, said it expects 163 employees to be displaced.
A manager at the Ala Moana store, the only location in the state, said the Australian-themed brand will merge with sister company Hollister on the same third floor of the mall.
"We’re going to be moving to the Hollister location; it’s not going out of business," said the manager, adding that the company will continue to operate the online store. "They already sell our merchandise, so they’re just going to be expanding the amount they have in there."
Parent company Abercrombie & Fitch announced last month that it would shut down all stand-alone Gilly Hicks locations nationwide by the end of the first quarter of 2014.
Abercrombie most recently operated 20 Gilly Hicks stores in the U.S. and eight internationally. The first Gilly Hicks store opened in 2008.
