Pedestrians passing by the new First Hawaiian Bank in Aina Haina now have a place to get a drink of water.
The bank installed a pedestal drinking fountain on the sidewalk fronting Kalanianaole Highway. First Hawaiian Bank President and CEO Bob Harrison, a former runner, said the idea came from one of the company’s Aina Haina customers.
"It’s something we felt would be a nice contribution for the Aina Haina community, which we have been a part of for 53 years," he said. "We invite anyone who wants to run, walk or jog by our new Aina Haina Branch, to stop by and have a drink of water."
The bank will maintain the fountain for public use.
The original Aina Haina branch opened in 1960 at the Aina Haina Shopping Center. The new 5,700-square-foot building is twice the size, located at the site of the former McDonald’s restaurant, which is now next door.
The new branch was designed with moss-rock exterior columns, a tile roof and vaulted ceilings to let in natural light. There are two drive-up teller windows, and drive- and walk-up ATM machines.
Lois Tojio, senior vice president, continues to serve as the Aina Haina branch manager.
