Body found in burned Mountain View home
Hawaii County firefighters found a body after battling a house fire in the Eden Roc section of Mountain View on Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire at 7:09 p.m.
The 800-square-foot single-story home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 7:35 p.m.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 7:45 p.m. and extinguished it at 10:04 p.m.
A person’s remains were found inside the home after the fire was extinguished. The victim has not been identified.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the home was estimated at $33,000.
Driver hurt when her Jeep hits hydrant
A woman in her 20s was critically injured Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash in Mililani, police and Emergency Medical Services reported.
Police said the woman was the driver of a Jeep that struck a fire hydrant at 95-652 Wikao St. at about 8:30 p.m. There was no other occupant in the vehicle, police said.
Paramedics transported the woman in critical condition to a trauma center, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
Intruder dances on couch at UH Press
University of Hawaii-Manoa campus security officials said a suspect in a string of recent break-ins was caught early Tuesday morning.
The suspect, identified only as a "young male," was apprehended at a UH Press office around 3:43 a.m.
The UH Press office also was entered illegally on Monday morning. At the time, UH campus security said the method of break-in was consistent with other burglaries at UH facilities.
Honolulu police arrested the suspect and are continuing their investigation of the burglaries.
UH sources said the intruder drank from an employee’s supply of tea, used an employee’s cup, used a computer workstation and danced on a couch, leaving dirty footprints.
Ex-boyfriend arrested on multiple charges
A 55-year-old man was arrested Monday on a number of charges including first-degree terroristic threatening in Waimea on Hawaii Island.
The man allegedly used his van to stalk his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, who was traveling in a sedan. Police said the van chased the sedan and tried to pull it over and collided with it on several occasions Dec. 17.
On Monday, South Kohala patrol officers, who were conducting a seat belt enforcement operation in Waimea, stopped the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of five counts of first-degree terroristic threatening; one count each of criminal property damage, reckless driving, causing an accident involving a vehicle and property, harassment by stalking, driving without a license and promoting a detrimental drug; and two counts each of promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.
He was being held at the Kona police cellblock.
