3 killed in Farrington Highway crash
Three people were killed and five others injured Saturday night in a head-on collision on Farrington Highway near Tracks Beach.
The collision involved a Honda car and a Nissan Titan truck. It is believed that the Honda crossed the center line and collided with the truck.
The three people killed — a woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s, and a 4-year-old girl — were all passengers in the Honda, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Carlton Yamada. The driver of the Honda, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a local trauma center in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The four occupants of the truck — two women, 42 and 49, a 15-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl — were all taken to a local trauma center in serious condition, according to Emegency Medical Services. None of their injuries was believed to be life-threatening.
The collision occurred shortly around 8:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway.
All westbound lanes of Farrington Highway were closed and eastbound lanes were contraflowed while police investigated the crash.
Man critically hurt after being hit by car
Paramedics took an 89-year-old man to the hospital in critical condition Saturday morning after he was hit by a car while crossing an intersection in Kahala.
The man was crossing Hunakai Street in a marked crosswalk alongside Kilauea Avenue at about 4:55 a.m. when he was struck by a Honda Civic driven by a 24-year-old woman, according to Lt. Bobby Towne of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Division. The man, a Kahala resident, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, Towne said.
The woman, who lives on the mainland but is here visiting family in Kahala, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Towne said. Hunakai Street was closed from Koae Street to Kilauea Avenue during the investigation. Speed is not considered a factor in the accident, Towne said.
