Information about the official New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Las Vegas has been announced. Known as "America’s Party," the show will encompass both the annual fireworks show on the Strip and live entertainment downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. As in recent years, the Strip fireworks will be launched from seven rooftop locations: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, Venetian and Stratosphere. More than 80,000 pyrotechnic devices will be used in the 8-minute, 23-second show that will be choreographed with some of the year’s top pop hits, including "Blurred Lines," "Wild Ones" and "Feel this Moment." The downtown party will run from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. and feature live performances by Loverboy and Vince Neil. Tickets are $40.
» New Theaters: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opens a new theater this week called the Chelsea. The 40,000-square-foot performance-and-events space will host Bruno Mars over the New Year’s holiday and on select dates in 2014, along with other name performers. And the former Theater for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood has been renamed the Axis, just in time for Britney Spears’ debut over New Year’s.
» Football Deal: If you’re looking for a good place to watch a game, try the Wicked Vicky Tavern at the Riviera, where 15 wings and a pitcher of beer (15 choices) are just $15 during any college or pro football game on Monday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday. The Vicky has retained all the elements of the former Queen Victoria Pub, including the Brit menu; more than 100 draft beers; and big-screen TVs.
QUESTION: Is it possible to get onto the Strip for New Year’s Eve?
ANSWER: About 330,000 visitors are expected to be in town, with many angling to be partying on the Strip at midnight. It’s easy if you have a room at a casino — just step in and out as you like. If you don’t, you’ll have to start early to secure a parking space on or near the Strip and be prepared to wait well past midnight to leave.
