Car freshener good for the long haul

Don’t you hate it when you buy a car freshener that smells great for a few days before the scent disappears? I do, which is why I am absolutely in love with Bath & Body Works’ Scentportable Car Fresheners. Sure, the holders are cute and the scents are wonderful (like most things at the store), but they’re also long-lasting, maintaining their scent for four to six weeks. The scent might be a little too strong at first for some people but mellows out after a week or two. The scented disks, which come in an array of fragrances, are $3.50, and the holders, which conveniently clip to your car’s air vent or sun visor, range from $4.50 to $12.50. Holder makes swigging easier

If you’re familiar with the vacuum-insulated, double-walled, stainless-steel bottles that keep liquids hot for up to 12 hours and cold for up to 24 hours, you know the 40-ounce bottle is a great size for taking to the beach, gym or yoga studio. But it’s also a pretty big bottle that can be cumbersome. Kailua resident Charlie Wong, an airline employee and surfboard shaper, has developed a unique, handmade holder that features a removable design. A simple rubber strip wedges between the Hydro Flask and palaka-print holder, keeping it in place and providing a convenient metal handle.

Hats bring out the animal in you

These adorable animal hats caught my eye during a recent shopping excursion to the North Shore. The brown bear and penguin were my favorites, but an array of animals are available including lions, monkeys, cows, moose, chickens, mice and a shark.
