HPU men turn back British Columbia
Junior guard Justin Long scored 35 points, 15 coming on five 3-pointers, to lead Hawaii Pacific to an 82-75 victory over British Columbia in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Blaisdell Arena on Wednesday night.
Long was 12-for-17 from the field, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, for the Sea Warriors (7-2). Junior forward Malte Ziegenhagen added 13 points and junior guard Darryl Jones Jr. had 12 for HPU in its fourth straight win.
The Thunderbirds (4-7) were led by senior guard Andrew McGuinness, who was 7-for-13 from 3-point range en route to 25 points. Sophomore forward Conor Morgan added 13 points and senior forward Tanner Jackson 11 for UBC.
A 3-pointer by McGuinness tied it at 67-67 with 4:12 remaining. Long answered with a 3-pointer 22 seconds later to put the Sea Warriors ahead for good.
