Vehicle falls down cliff, killing driver
A woman died Saturday after a white BMW convertible in which she was traveling left Kahekili Highway in Kahakuloa and fell 100 feet down a cliff.
Maui fire rescue personnel were called to the scene at 1:44 p.m. and found the vehicle at the bottom of the cliff with the woman’s body inside. A Maui Fire Department helicopter accessed the scene and firefighters are determining how best to remove the victim’s body.
No other details were yet available.
6 people displaced by house fire on Maui
A couple escaped without injury from a Friday night house fire in Paukukalo, Maui, that displaced six people.
Maui fire officials said the fire broke out at 590 Kailana St. at about 8:37 p.m. Crews from Wailuku and Kahului responded, arriving at 8:46 p.m., and found a two-story house about 25 percent consumed by flames on the second floor.
A resident woke up her husband who was sleeping in the home when the fire broke out, and they escaped without injury. Firefighters extinguished the fire at 9:29 p.m.
No damage estimate was immediately available.
Motorcyclist hurt in collision with sedan
A crash sent an 18-year-old motorcyclist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night, Maui police said.
The accident happened at 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Piilani Highway and Kaonoulu Street in Kihei.
Police said a 2005 silver Chevrolet sedan, driven by a 48-year-old Kihei man, was traveling north on Piilani Highway and made a left turn onto Kaonoulu Street into the path of a 2008 blue Suzuki motorcycle traveling south on the highway. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the sedan.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, police said.
1-car crash sends 3 women to hospital
Paramedics transported two women in serious condition to a hospital Friday after a traffic accident in Kaneohe in which a vehicle struck a telephone pole and rolled over, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
The accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. Friday on Kamehameha Highway near King Intermediate School, 46-155 Kamehameha Highway. The driver, a 60-year-old woman, and one passenger, a 57-year-old woman, were treated at the scene and then transported to a hospital. Paramedics transported another passenger, a 27-year-old woman, to a hospital in stable condition, EMS reported.
Police diverted traffic around the accident scene on Kamehameha Highway onto Ikiiki Street from Imiloa and Ipuka streets.
