Specialist to discuss link between herbicide, GMO
How is the herbicide Roundup tied to the issue of genetically modified food? University of Hawaii crop specialist Hector Valenzuela and Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientist Stephanie Seneff discuss the topic 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Moiliili Community Center.
Valenzuela is with UH’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Seneff is a researcher at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Learn to cook Korean and Japanese dishes
Learn to cook all kinds of Korean food, and some Japanese food as well, at Walter Rhee’s cooking classes. Rhee also leads Chinatown eating tours.

Multi-island meal event pairs chefs with farms
Outstanding in the Field, a "traveling restaurant without walls," is organizing five family-style farm meals on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
For each meal, a chef is paired with a farm and prepares items grown there. Diners eat at the farm.

Castle Wellness Center hits the ground running in 2014 with two healthy-cooking classes in January.

» On Jan. 16, dietitian and sports nutrition expert Amanda O’Neill will discuss how nutritious food fuels an active lifestyle. She will also share easy recipes for snacks and mealtime.
