Lau honored by the Big Ten
Penn State junior Randi Lau, a 2011 graduate of Thompson Academy, was named the Big Ten gymnast of the week Monday.
Lau opened her 2014 season on Sunday, winning the vault with a score of 9.825 to help the Nittany Lions defeat Iowa State.
She finished second overall in the all-around with a score of 38.825, which included a fourth-place finish on the floor exercise (9.750) and a score of 9.725 on the balance beam, good for fifth place.
The conference award is a first for Lau, who transferred to Penn State from LSU, where she competed her first two seasons.
She won three vault titles and one balance beam title in her two years with the Tigers.

>> Micah Dunhour, Academy of the Pacific ’11: The Notre Dame de Namur junior guard dropped in 23 points on 6-for-10 shooting in an 80-61 loss to Cal Baptist on Saturday and had 20 points and nine rebounds in a 69-59 loss to Azusa Pacific on Monday.
>> Matt Feldman, Punahou ’10: The Baruch (N.Y.) College senior guard finished with eight points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 64-53 loss to Staten Island on Saturday.
>> Josiah Sukumaran, ‘Iolani ’11: The La Verne forward had three points and five rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench in a 62-52 win over Caltech on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
>> Lia Galdeira, Konawaena ’12: The Washington State sophomore guard scored a game-high 27 points and was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line to lead the Cougars to an 85-78 upset of nationally ranked Arizona State on Friday. Galdeira had 16 points and five steals in a 61-59 win over Arizona on Sunday to help WSU start 2-0 in Pac-12 play for the second time in three years.
>> Dawnyelle Awa, Konawaena ’12: The Washington State point guard had five points, four assists and three steals against the Sun Devils and four points, four assists and three rebounds against the Wildcats.
>> Kylie Maeda, ‘Iolani ’12: The Brigham Young sophomore guard made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes off the bench in a 69-67 overtime win over Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Saturday.
>> Hailey Ann Maeda, Punahou ’11: The Whitman (Wash.) sophomore forward had eight points, six rebounds, three steals and a block in a 78-58 win over Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday.
>> Ashley Agcaoili, Maryknoll ’11: The Puget Sound junior guard had seven points and five rebounds in a 70-59 win over Linfield (Ore.) on Saturday.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
>> Maddie Jamora, Kapolei ’11: The Utah junior finished sixth in the 50 freestyle event with a time of 25.07 seconds in a dual-meet win over Arizona State on Saturday.
>> Alexandra Jamora, Kapolei ’09: The Utah senior finished seventh in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.76 seconds against the Sun Devils.
