Night hunters get prison time
Two Kauai men were sentenced to jail time for hunting at night last year.
Jason Douglas Perreira, 30, of Kalaheo, on Thursday was sentenced to time served — 130 days — on one count of night hunting on March 11, the Garden Island reported.
Shaun Keoki Isao Kawamura, 27, of Kalaheo, was sentenced to seven days in addition to time already served.
On Aug, 29, both men changed their pleas to no contest to misdemeanor night hunting. Charges of second-degree criminal trespass, firearms and ammunition placement and felony drug possession were dismissed.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano said there was evidence of drug use during the hunt.
"That is a bad combination," he said.
