Choral groups are looking for singers
Two choral groups are seeking singers for spring performances.
The Honolulu Symphony Chorus will hold auditions Jan. 27 for its May 23 concert of Bach’s "Mass in B-minor" with a full orchestra in Blaisdell Concert Hall.
Singers at least 18 years old or who have graduated from high school may audition. To reserve an audition slot, contact chorus manager Stephanie Morem by email at stephanie@oahuchoral.org or call 392-0382.
Auditions include an art song, aria or hymn of the singer’s choice. An accompanist will be provided. Singers also will be assessed for range, quality, diction and sight-reading ability.
Symphony Chorus dues are $200 annually; scholarships may be available. Regular rehearsals are 7 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays.

No auditions are required for the Windward Choral Society, which will hold an "open house" rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Kailua United Methodist Church, 1110 Kailua Road.
Regular rehearsals from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays will culminate in several spring-themed concerts. The chorus, comprising singers of different backgrounds, ages and vocal experience, performs ethnic, traditional and master choral works.

Foxes will perform at The Republik
Rising British pop star Foxes, aka Louisa Rose Allen, will be making her first appearance in the islands Friday for the Pepsi Pro Bowl Concert at The Republik.
Foxes is best known for her vocal contribution to 2012’s "Clarity," the No. 1 dance club song by German/Russian electronic dance producer Zedd. The 22-year-old from Southampton, England, is working on her debut album "Glorious," expected to be released in March.

Pepsi, the NFL’s official drink sponsor, is flying out Foxes to Honolulu for this performance ahead of the Pro Bowl, set for Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
‘Living History Day’ at Missouri, museum
Battleship Missouri Memorial and the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor are celebrating "Living History Day" with a full slate of events and activities Feb. 1.
The event coincides with the 70th anniversary of the launch of USS Missouri on Jan. 29, 1944. Hawaii residents and military members will be able to enjoy free admission to the memorial from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., when there will be displays of military vehicles, memorabilia and weaponry;bands playing patriotic music;oral history presentations;people in World War II period dress; displays from active-duty military units; and a flyover by vintage aircraft.

Visitors to the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 will be able to interact with actors portraying aviation pioneers and heroes in period dress and meet nisei veterans of the famed 100th Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team, as well as Stacey Hayashi, author of the "Journey of Heroes" comic book.
Short aviation-themed films by Aliamanu Middle School students that were sponsored by the Smithsonian Young Historians Living History Project will get their Hawaii premiere at the event. The films spotlight Pan American’s nisei stewardesses and Chinese-American barnstormer Tom Gunn.
