Bob’s Big Boy reopens under new name
Bob’s Big Boy Hawaii, which closed its Mapunapuna restaurant after a fire in April 2009, has reopened under a new name in Waipahu Town Center in the former Sizzler location.
The new restaurant, Bob’s Big Bear Diner Waipahu, will celebrate its grand opening from noon to 9:30 p.m. today at 94-030 Farrington Highway and will feature appearances by comedian Frank De Lima and radio personality Bart DaSilva.
A classic cheeseburger, fries and Coke float will be sold for $10.79, and there will be 60 free meal giveaways, free gummy bears and 1950s music.
Many former employees of Bob’s Big Boy Hawaii have been hired.

Maui woman’s art will grace phone cases
Rosie Sutherland’s rendering of Madame Pele with flames and tapa-inspired elements has won the design contest announced in November by MobiPCS and phone case customizer 808 Shells.
Sutherland’s artwork will be laser-engraved onto limited-edition Samsung Galaxy S3 cases by Maui-based 808 Shells which will be sold exclusively at MobiPCS stores statewide beginning in mid-February.
Artists were invited to submit black-and-white designs, which were to be voted on by Facebook users.
Sutherland, who is from Maui, will receive the first case produced, a free Samsung phone with 12 months of free service from MobiPCS, and a Beats by Dre "Studio" headset valued at more than $1,500.
Rusty Kamai of Honolulu and Samson Harp of Maui won second and third place, respectively, along with a selection of prizes.
Rugby team gets hospitality sponsor
Castle Resorts & Hotels has signed on as a sponsor for the Hawaii Harlequin Rugby Football Club.
The agreement will help the team with accommodations around the Pacific in countries where the sport is popular.
Castle Resorts’ "roots and community in the southern hemisphere, where rugby has one of the biggest followings, will help us continue to extend the visibility of our club but even more importantly the visibility of Rugby in Hawaii," Alexander Stokes, Hawaii Harlequins president, said in a statement.
The team was established in 1964, and its date-pending 2014 championship will be part of its 50th-anniversary celebration.
Marketer of the Year entry deadline nears
The Hawaii chapter of the American Marketing Association is accepting entries for its 37th Marketer of the Year award.
Awards will be presented to organizations in five categories: Best Non-Profit Marketing, Best E-Marketing, Best Marketing of a New Product or Service, Best Rebrand Marketing and Best Marketing of an Event. The overall Marketer of the Year award will be presented to an organization or an individual.
Winners in the six categories will be honored at the annual AMA Hawaii Marketer of the Year awards luncheon in April. Entry details are available at www.AMAHawaii.org, and the deadline is 5 p.m. Friday.

SSFM International has announced Galen T. Gokan as deputy manager for the Kauai office as well as a senior project engineer. Gokan is an experienced project engineer and construction manager working in the Kauai office.
Mid-Pacific Institute has appointed Gary Cordova vice president of institutional advancement. He is former executive director of development for the University of Hawaii. Cardova’s experience includes serving as assistant dean of external affairs and development for the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon and vice president for institutional advancement at Chaminade University.
