Scams galore washing over us like water
Scammers seem to be capitalizing on the Honolulu Board of Water Supply’s recent billing woes, when trouble with a new computer system contributed to errors in many customers’ bills. Now the agency warns that individuals impersonating BWS employees have hit up Oahu customers, trying to collect what they claim are past-due amounts. Don’t fall for this fraud: Call the BWS if you have any questions about your bill.
Meanwhile, on Maui, some customers are due refunds after being overbilled about $10 a month due to a computer glitch, according to news reports. Officials advised customers of the problem last week after hearing from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, which provides billing services on that island as well.
UH men’s basketball succeeding on 2 levels
Nothing breeds success like, well, success.
That comes to mind as we see the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors men’s basketball team winning — 14-5 record (3-2 in Big West Conference play) — and, at the same time, bringing in the fans. Entering tonight’s game against Long Beach State, ticket revenues are nearly $785,000, on pace to hit a targeted season “high end” goal of $963,000.
Given the past year’s tough going for the UH system in general, and the still-ailing UH athletics department in particular, it’s certainly good to have positives to cheer about, and to cheer on.
