Driver of moped is badly injured in crash
A 26-year-old Ewa Beach man was in critical condition Saturday morning after crashing his moped in Ewa Beach, police said.
The man was heading east on Geiger Road when he lost control about 7:26 a.m. He was not wearing a helmet when he hit the roadway, which was wet from the rain.
Police said the man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with head and internal injuries.
Officers closed parts of Geiger Road, Essex Road and Kapolei Parkway for about two hours to investigate.
Elderly Alzheimer’s patient is found safe
The 90-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease that Maui County firefighters have been searching for has been found, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said
He was found behind the Lalakoa subdivision at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The man was reported missing around 4:50 p.m. Friday by family members when he didn’t return home after his daily walk. Lanai firefighters and a fire helicopter from Kahului began searching about 5:30 p.m., but the search was suspended at dark. Firefighters and volunteers resumed their search at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Search for missing man shuts Big Isle park
Akaka Falls State Park on Hawaii island was closed Saturday while police and firefighters searched for a missing person, authorities said.
Jeffrey Reyes, 53, was last seen at the park at 8:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Reyes is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds, with short brown hair and a medium build.
A Hawaii Fire Department supervisor said police called firefighters to assist.
