Since December, chef Adam Tabura and the Aloha Plate food truck team — winners of last season’s "Great Food Truck Race" on the Food Network — have joined with 7-Eleven to provide Spam Sliders to the convenience store’s prepared-food menu.
This week they added more items to their repertoire: a Spam Light Musubi featuring "hapa" rice (a mix of brown and white rice) and Chef Adam’s Spam Loco Moco.
Part of the proceeds from sales of the Aloha Plate foods will fulfill wish lists on SupportMyClass.org, a site where Hawaii’s public school teachers post requests for needed supplies. Items range from pencils to iPads. Teachers spend an average of $40 of their own money monthly to provide supplies for their classes, said Lanai Tabura, a member of the Aloha Plate team.
Expect a few more Spam dishes from Aloha Plate at 7-Eleven in the coming weeks, Tabura said.
