Shirokiya Ala Moana’s second-story Yataimura food court keeps evolving, and one of its newest introductions is Matsuzaka-Tei, offering inexpensive comfort meals of sukiyaki.
Also called gyu-don, the tender slices of sweet marinated beef and onions are served over rice for a satisfying one-bowl meal.
The sukiyaki bowls come in regular, large and extra-large portions at $4.90, $5.90 and $6.90. The size of the bowl doesn’t change, only the height of the meat as it’s heaped over rice. Each bowl is accompanied by a bowl of miso soup, although the soup is not offered with takeout.
Add-on toppings are also available for $1 each. They include ontama (half-boiled egg), cheese, green onions, kim chee, natto, okra and tororo (Japanese yam).
