Hawaiian Airlines tops in punctuality again
Hawaiian Airlines led the nation in on-time performance in 2013 for the 10th year in a row.
The state’s largest airline had an average of 93.3 percent of its flights arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, according to data released Monday by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Hawaiian topped the rankings in 11 of the 12 months and exceeded the industry average for the year by 15 percentage points.
For December, Hawaiian was first in on-time performance at 92.4 percent. In other December categories, Hawaiian ranked first for fewest cancellations at 0.2 percent, or 11 out of 6,032 total flights; second for fewest mishandled-baggage reports with 2.26 per 1,000 passengers; and sixth for fewest consumer complaints at 0.61 per 100,000 passengers. And in the quarterly oversales category, Hawaii had the third-fewest number of passengers involuntarily denied boardings in the fourth quarter at 0.18 per 10,000 passengers.

Sexiest cities don’t include Honolulu
Las Vegas, Miami and New York, as well as Paris, Rome and Cancun, Mexico, are the sexiest cities in the U.S. and the world, according to users of travel site Orbitz.com.
Its two lists of the six sexiest cities in the U.S. and internationally also included San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago in the U.S., as well as San Jose, Costa Rica, London and Toronto internationally.
Honolulu is, nevertheless, within the top six destinations around the world for the upcoming Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend, according to the travel site.
Most destinations registered price increases for Presidents Day, but Honolulu was the only one with a price decrease, the site said. The average daily hotel room rate for the coming holiday weekend is 6 percent lower than last year at $220, Orbitz said.
The Orbitz Valentine’s Day/Sexiest Cities survey was a brief one, conducted from Jan. 31 through Feb. 5, and included input from 750 adults.
Rate declines on late mortgage payments
LOS ANGELES » U.S. homeowners are doing a better job of keeping up with mortgage payments, a trend that has reduced the rate of late payment on home loans to the lowest level in more than five years.
The percentage of mortgage holders at least two months behind on their payments fell in the October-December quarter to 3.85 percent from 5.08 percent a year earlier, credit reporting agency TransUnion said Wednesday.
The last time the mortgage delinquency rate was lower was 3.61 percent in the second quarter of 2008. The firm’s data go back to the second quarter of 2007.
The latest rate also declined from 4.09 percent in the third quarter, the firm said.
CVS profit jumps more than 12 percent
CVS Caremark’s fourth-quarter earnings climbed more than 12 percent as improved sales from established locations helped the drugstore operator and pharmacy benefits manager offset fewer customer visits.
The Woonsocket, R.I., company, the parent company of Longs Drugs, said Tuesday that pharmacy revenue from established drugstores climbed 6.8 percent in the quarter that ended Dec. 31. That countered a drop of nearly 2 percent from the front end, or the rest of the store. Revenue from stores open at least a year is considered a key indicator of a drugstore chain’s financial health. It eliminates the impact of stores that have recently opened or closed.
Overall, CVS Caremark earned $1.27 billion, or $1.05 a share, in the fourth quarter. That compares with earnings of $1.13 billion, or 90 cents a share, in the final quarter of 2012. Revenue rose nearly 5 percent to $32.83 billion.
