A valentine for romantic Hawaii
Not too shabby, Hawaii: We’ve snared high-ranking spots on a few travel-industry "most romantic" lists for yet another Valentine’s season. And we don’t even have to buy tickets to get here.
Perhaps we take the surroundings for granted, so we have to make an extra effort. At the University of Hawaii, Manoa students are marking the occasion Friday with Condom Fair 2014. This means games and prizes, including condom roses, condom lollipops and educational materials. Romantic? Hmm.
We ought to count our blessings, though. Florists across the snow-covered East are shivering and quaking in their boots over deliveries. Getting the dozen roses to those outstretched arms is not guaranteed when roads are icy.
Know a mainlander feeling blue for lack of love? Send them a little greeting from nearly-always-sunny Hawaii.
Baseball ‘Bows back in business
Take me out to the ball game. Take me out with the crowd …
Yes, it’s that time again: baseball season! At the college level, anyway.
Not counting its annual alumni game last Saturday, in which they beat former team members 8-3, the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors kick off their 2014 season Friday at Les Murakami Stadium, in beautiful Manoa, facing off for the first of four games against the visiting Oregon Ducks.
After that, it’s three to four games a week through late May, and maybe into the playoffs in June, depending on how they do in the regular season.
Pass those peanuts and Cracker Jack, please. And Go ‘Bows!
