Man, 72, faces murder charge

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging a 72-year-old man with a murder last month in Waipahu.

The indictment charges Jose Inigo with murder in connection with the Jan. 12 stabbing death of 42-year-old Marlo G. Basuel at a Kahuanani Street home.

State Circuit Judge Richard Perkins set bail for Inigo at $300,000.

Police arrested Inigo not far from the murder scene at his Kahualoa Place home three days after the killing after Inigo sought medical attention for an injury to one of his hands.

They later released him without charges pending further investigation.

Kauai bus fleet is overhauled with 20 vehicles

Kauai County is rolling out 20 new buses next week.

Nine 31-seaters are headed for commuter routes, six 21-seaters will be on multiple routes and five 14-seaters will be on paratransit routes for seniors and the disabled. The vehicles will replace old buses.

The buses were blessed and named Tuesday by Native Hawaiian kupuna “Uncle” Thomas Takahashi.

The Federal Transit Administration provided $2,167,778 for the fleet. The county’s share was $541,944.

Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. said, “Having the new buses will improve the reliability of our transit services as well as reduce the expense of frequent repairs required with older vehicles.”
