Hawaii Hilo captures third straight win
Kirstie Williams scored 15 points — all on 3-pointers — and Hawaii Hilo used a 51-point second half to rally past Notre Dame Namur 82-67 on Monday night at the UHH gym.
Hayley Reynolds came off the bench for 14 points for the Vulcans (9-13, 8-10), who hit 12 3-pointers in winning their third straight. The Argos (5-20, 4-15) got 17 points each from Maya Arellanes and Jennifer Jasper.
» Williams, a junior guard for UHH, was named the PacWest player of the week after helping the Vulcans clinch a berth in the conference tournament with two wins last week.
Williams scored 22 points in both games — against Azusa Pacific on the road and Holy Names at home. She was 13-for-19 on 3-point attempts, including six 3-pointers in the second half of the upset at Azusa Pacific.
Hawaii Pacific routs Fresno Pacific
Skye Savini scored 18 points and Morganne Comstock came off the bench for 17 to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 71-55 victory over Fresno Pacific at Blaisdell Arena.
Ieva Nagy added 15 points and Shianne Solomon 12 on four 3-pointers for the Sea Warriors (16-9, 12-7) in their last home game of the season. Reserve Keairra White led the Sunbirds (10-14, 10-8) with 14 points.
Brigham Young-Hawaii ends long skid
Danna Lynn Hooper scored 30 points and Whitney Fieldsted grabbed 16 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawaii snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 75-71 win over Holy Names at Cannon Activities Center.
Bry Tatupu-Leopoldo added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Seasiders (3-21, 3-16) in their final home game of the season. Soma Aguila led the Hawks (10-15, 6-13) with 29 points.
Honor roll
Danna Lynn Hooper, BYUH: The senior guard out of Molokai scored a game-high 25 points in the Seasiders’ double-overtime loss to Fresno Pacific. She had three 3-pointers, four assists and three steals.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Farman, HPU defeat Fresno Pacific
Farbod Farman scored 20 points with 12 rebounds — all on the defensive boards — in leading Hawaii Pacific to an 80-69 win over Fresno Pacific Monday at Blaisdell Arena.
The Sea Warriors (14-11, 9-10 PacWest) had three other players in double figures in their last home game of the year: Justin Long with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, Colfax Nordquist with 12 points and Malte Ziegenhagen with 10.
The Sunbirds (11-15, 6-12) also had four players in double figures, led by Trevon Clayton’s game-high 21 points.
UHH stops Notre Dame de Namur
Lucas Swanson and Derek Owens each hit four 3-pointers and Hawaii Hilo ran away for its second conference win, topping Notre Dame de Namur 88-69 at the UHH gym.
Swanson finished with 28 points and Owens had 20 points and seven assists for the Vulcans (5-19, 2-16).
The Argos (7-18, 6-13) got 16 points off the bench from Don Washington and Simon Enciso.
Medlock, BYUH romp over Holy Names
DeAndre Medlock scored 20 points and reserve Tyler Tuliau hit every shot he attempted as Brigham Young-Hawaii used stellar free-throw shooting to defeat Holy Names 107-79 in its last home game this season.
Tuliau was perfect from the floor (7-for-7) and the line (3-for-3) for 17 points for the Seasiders (14-11, 12-7) in their third consecutive win and second straight 100-point-plus outing. Medlock was also perfect from the line (10-for-10) and BYUH was an impressive 29-for-31 as a team.
Josh Kasim finished with 17 points and Dante Robinson 14 for the Hawks (5-22, 4-15) who were outscored 23-9 to start the second half.
Swords’ Shastri earns freshman honors
Guard Kiran Shastri was named the conference’s freshman of the week after helping Chaminade snap a three-game losing streak with two wins last week.
He averaged 23 points per game on 63.2 percent shooting and had a conference-best 11 3-pointers. Shastri hit six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points in Chaminade’s 101-83 win over Fresno Pacific.

Scott Friel, BYUH: The sophomore guard had 17 points, 11 assists and two steals in a game in which the Seasiders’ balanced attack accounted for 13 3-pointers in a 106-71 win over Fresno Pacific. Friel did not attempt a trey, going 5-for-8 inside the arc and 7-for-8 from the line.
Darnell Williams, UHH: The junior guard scored 16 points to help the Vulcans earn their first win, an 83-75 victory over Holy Names. He finished with a career-high 31 points in a 92-79 loss at Azusa Pacific.
BASEBALL
Sea Warriors sweep doubleheader
Jordan Oshiro’s RBI single to right-center proved to be the game-winner as Hawaii Pacific prevailed 11-10 in 10 innings in the first game of Monday’s PacWest baseball doubleheader at Fresno Pacific.
In the nightcap, the Sea Warriors (8-5, 3-1) held on for a 2-1 victory against the Sunbirds (6-7, 1-3). Doug Christie went the distance, scattering five hits with three strikeouts and two walks over seven innings, and Dennis Nakasato drove in both runs with singles in the first and third.
GOLF
Aoki in hunt at St. Edward’s Invitational
Senior Nyssa Aoki was one stroke off the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round of the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin, Texas.
The Waiakea High product carded a 3-over 74 on the 5,997-yard Grey Rock Golf Club. She trailed tri-leaders Haley Haught of host St. Edward’s. Sonoma State’s McKayla Kennedy and Tezira Abe playing unattached for Texas in the 14-team field.
The Vulcans were in fourth at 312, six strokes behind St. Edward’s.
