Admire luminous jewelry line
Award-winning Hawaii fine jewelry designer Jason Dow will launch his new Prakasa Collection on Saturday, with pieces on display and available for purchase at Hildgund Jewelers at The Kahala Hotel & Resort.
Roughly translated as "light" in Hindi, Prakasa also refers to purity and the luminosity of consciousness. Dow’s goal was to capture the essence of a light source and relate it to the light within individuals. The designs take the form of lanterns, marrying Dow’s complex design style with clean lines.
His designs are created with 18-karat gold, platinum, diamonds and other precious gemstones.

Fashion takes center stage
Local fashion designers including "Project Runway’s" Ari South will show their work in a fashion show at the Red Dress Ball on Saturday in the Blaisdell Center’s Pikake Room to benefit the Life Foundation. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
South will present the newest collection from her Andy South line while up-and-coming fashion designers will be featured in the Cure Couture competition, during which they will create original works inspired by the red AIDS awareness ribbon. Local celebrities will walk down the runway wearing works in red by local designers, and the event will end with a fantasy collection from over-the-top Couture Creations by Calvi.
General admission tickets for the 18-and-older event are $40. VIP tables of four are $300, including pupu and a hosted bar sponsored by Redd’s Apple Ale and Koloa Rum. Pre-sale tickets are available at www.lifefoundation.org or at the foundation’s office at 677 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 226. Tickets will not be available at the door.
The Life Foundation is a local organization that provides free HIV testing and services for people living with HIV/AIDS on Oahu. An estimated 3,000 people in Hawaii have HIV or AIDS. Approximately 40,000 new HIV infections occur each year in the United States, half among individuals 25 and younger.
