For the second night in a row, both Pepperdine and Hawaii played flawless defense and got dominant outings from their starting pitchers.
This time, the Waves got the timely hit that never came in Game 1.
Aaron Barnett broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out RBI single in the top of the 11th inning and reliever Eric Karch struck out Jerry Kleman looking on a borderline 3-2 pitch with the tying run on second to seal Pepperdine’s 2-1 victory over Hawaii on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbow Warriors (5-5) had runners on first and second with two outs in the 11th for Kleman, who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the 10th.
Kleman’s first official at-bat of the season ended on a called third strike on the inside part of the plate. He quickly turned and argued with home plate umpire Billy Haze before Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso intervened.
Haze was showered with boos by the 1,142 in attendance.
"I don’t know if it was a strike or not," Trapasso said.
The call ended Hawaii’s five-game winning streak and dropped UH to 0-2 in extra-inning games this season.
Karch (2-0) allowed his first hit of the season but picked up the win for the Waves (7-2), who evened the series at a game apiece.
"We’ve just got to go out and continue doing what we’re doing," Trapasso said. "We get the pitching we’ve got the last two nights without making any errors, we’re going to be a pretty good team."
Pepperdine starter Corey Miller was one strike away from his second complete-game shutout in six days.
Trevor Podratz, pinch-hitting for Austin Wobrock with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, singled past the glove of second baseman Hutton Moyer to right, scoring Marc Flores from second to tie the game.
It was the first earned run given up by Miller this season in 252/3 innings.
The senior right-hander, who was clocked between 87 and 91 mph, gave up three of his seven hits in the ninth inning.
Flores, who had three of UH’s eight hits, singled with one out in the ninth and took second on a single by Juliene Jones.
Miller struck out pinch hitter Marcus Doi looking before Podratz’s hit knocked him out of the game after 126 pitches.
He walked one and struck out eight.
"We didn’t have any answers for Miller," Trapasso said.
Aaron Brown hit a leadoff double in the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Barnett for Pepperdine’s only run off Hawaii starter Scott Squier.
Squier, who gave up six runs in the first inning against Albany last week, allowed five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
"That was by far his best outing of the season," Trapasso said. "If we get that kind of outing from him, we’re going to be pretty good. That’s what we need from him."
Freshman Gordon Cardenas (0-2) threw the final four innings in relief of Squier, giving up the one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Cardenas retired eight in a row before Bryan Langlois’ one-out single in the 11th. Langlois stole second and eventually scored on Barnett’s hit to left to raise his batting average to .432.
"Somebody is going to score eventually when you’re playing games like this," Trapasso said. "(Cardenas) made a decent pitch and (Barnett) did a really nice job."
Flores stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Since starting the season 0-for-14 against Oregon, Flores is hitting .524 (11-for-21).
