Mother and son face charges of selling ‘ice’
A Hawi mother and son have been charged by Hawaii County police with methamphetamine distribution after a raid on their home.
On Thursday morning, police served a search warrant at a home on the 55-3300 block of Akoni Pule Highway in Hawi. The property was within 750 feet of a private school.
Police recovered 2.2 grams of a crystalline substance, paraphernalia associated with meth distribution, 1.4 grams of a dried leafy substance and $5,032 in cash.
Arrested at the scene were the residents Blaine Isabel, 35, and his mother, April Isabel, 55.
Thursday afternoon, both suspects were charged with meth trafficking, promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a detrimental drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and promoting a controlled substance near a school.
April Isabel was released Thursday evening after posting $16,250 bail. Her son was held at the cellblock in lieu of $81,000 bail.
Suspect sought in death of homeless man
Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 31-year-old man wanted in connection with the stabbing death of a homeless man last month in Kailua.
Robert Roediger-Geauque is a suspect in the death of Scott MacMillan, 37, who was killed in a stairwell Jan. 13.
Police said MacMillan was found at 11:41 p.m. at 333 Uluniu St. with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
Roediger-Geauque is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a Hawaiian Islands tattoo on the back of his left leg. Police said he may be carrying a backpack and a skateboard with no wheels. He is known to frequent the Honolulu, Wahiawa, Windward, Kalihi and Waikiki areas.
Duo charged in robbery of Kalihi business
Two men who allegedly injured a woman during a robbery at a Kalihi business earlier this week were charged Friday with second-degree robbery.
Bail was set at $30,000 for 26-year-old Lyle Castro of Kalihi and 30-year-old Canaan Pa, who did not give police an address.
Police said Castro, Pa and a third male entered the store at about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday and used force against a 58-year-old female employee while stealing items. The woman sustained minor injuries.
Castro was arrested about an hour later on Dillingham Boulevard near Mokauea Street, and the stolen items were recovered, police said. Pa was arrested Thursday afternoon in Waipahu. The third man has not been identified.
Cellphone helps firefighters find lost hiker
Hawaii County firefighters used a lost hiker’s cellphone to triangulate his location in the remote Piha Forest Reserve near Laupahoehoe on Thursday.
The 20-year-old hiker called for help at 11:25 a.m.
Rescuers were able to use GPS coordinates triangulated from the man’s cellphone position. The hiker was spotted by the department’s helicopter. Ground crews were able to get to the man and guide him out.
Blaze displaces 3 at Kaneohe townhouse
Fire damaged the first floor of a two-story Kaneohe townhouse Friday night, injuring a man and displacing three residents.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire, reported at 6:47 p.m., started in a first-floor bedroom of the townhouse at 45-405 Mokulele Drive. The fire was under control at 7:19 p.m.
A man in his 60s suffered burns but declined to be transported to the hospital, Seelig said. A woman in her 60s was home at the time. One other occupant was not at home.
Fire investigators were looking for the cause of the fire.
