Beer entrepreneurs seek to reawaken brewing industry

Honolulu Beerworks, a brewpub at 328 Cooke St. in Kakaako headed by Geoff Seideman, is expected to open later this month. It’s the first in a string of brewpub debuts in Hawaii as the state catches up to the nationwide boom in smaller-scale craft brewing. Seideman is seen here pouring some of his Sheltered Bay IPA that he will test for specific gravity.

Geoff Seideman of Honolulu Beerworks will age some of his beer in American oak barrels that previously held Kentucky bourbon as well as in French oak barrels that once contained chardonnay wine.
