The second phase of the Linq restaurant and entertainment complex at center Strip debuted Friday. But while the entire Linq campus is accessible to the public, individual components will continue to open over the next couple of months, leading to a grand opening in late spring. The latest addition is the big Yardhouse bar and restaurant; the Brooklyn Bowl concert and bowling venue will open Saturday; and the High Roller observation wheel is expected to be operating in April. Work is also in progress on a big parking lot behind the wheel that will alleviate the current problems with Linq access.
» $10 million poker: The Main Event champion of this year’s World Series of Poker will win a guaranteed $10 million to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event being held at the Rio. But it doesn’t mean that prize money will be added. If there aren’t enough players to generate $10 million for first, the percentages paid to other in-the-money finishers will be lowered to make up the difference.
» Mo Pho: Pho Da Nang Vietnamese Kitchen has opened in the Asian-food outlet next to the sports book at the Rio. It’s the latest in-casino source for pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup, joining the Venetian, Treasure Island and the Quad.
» United perk: If you fly United to Las Vegas, you’re in line for a good comp on the Strip. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is distributing gift boxes on United Airlines flights that include a twofer for the Wicked Spoon buffet and $25 in slot free-play. The program changes offers every three months.
QUESTION: I was downtown last week, and there’s a big demolition underway about a block south of the Fremont Street Experience. What’s going on?
ANSWER: The building being razed was the former Clark County Courthouse. It was purchased by the D in October for $10 million. No plans have been announced for the parcel, but it may eventually be used for an expansion of the casino.
