The 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic field is complete.
DePaul of the Big East Conference and Loyola Marymount of the West Coast Conference are the seventh and eighth teams that will participate in Hawaii’s nationally televised college basketball holiday tournament, DHC executive director David Matlin confirmed.
They join previously announced teams Wichita State, Colorado, George Washington, Nebraska, Ohio and host UH.
"We’re excited to have DePaul, our first team from the Big East, and Loyola Marymount, which represents the L.A. market. Two solid programs with a lot of history," Matlin said.
Iowa State, currently the No. 16 team in the AP Top 25, won the 2013 Diamond Head Classic over Boise State in December. Besides its first Big East team, the next DHC also features its inaugural Big Ten team in the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
"This is our sixth tournament," Matlin said. "We’re excited, you look at Wichita State, which was at the Final Four last year, No. 2 in the country right now. I think it’s a solid field, very comparable to our last few years. You’ll definitely see some of these teams in the NCAA Tournament and probably doing pretty well."
