Historian to discuss book on women in World War II
Author Donna Knaff will examine the role of women during World War II in a presentation Saturday commemorating Women’s History Month at the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor.
Her talk will begin at 2 p.m. Knaff also will sign copies of her book, "Beyond Rosie the Riveter: Women of World War II in American Popular Graphic Art." The award-winning book features "the iconic images that promoted the war effort while confronting the definition of femininity in a world dominated by men," according to an event announcement.
Knaff is a World War II historian at the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command who has been on missions to Guam, Guadalcanal, Germany and Tarawa in search of the remains of missing U.S. service members. She is former chief historian at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, the country’s only national memorial to women’s military service.
The event is free with museum admission of $25, $15 for children ages 4 to 12 ($15 and $10 for Hawaii residents and military). For reservations, call 441-1007 or email Education@PacificAviationMuseum.org.
