HPU softball sweeps Holy Names
The Hawaii Pacific softball team stretched its win streak to six with a doubleheader sweep of Holy Names on Thursday at Howard A. Okita Field.
The Sea Warriors beat the Red Hawks 3-1 in the first game and 10-2 in the nightcap. Sharae Esprecion hit her second home run of the season to give HPU a 2-0 lead in the opener. HPU’s Kristen Caskey struck out six in seven innings.
In Game 2, the Sea Warriors jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and added five more runs in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.
»Chaminade (4-4, 4-4) split a doubleheader with Notre Dame de Namur, dropping the first game 7-2 and winning the second game 2-0.
Big West honors Majam Elms, Ventimilia
The Big West Conference recognized Hawaii baseball player Stephen Ventimilia and Rainbow Wahine softball player Kelly Majam Elms with its 2013 Sportsmanship Award on Thursday.
Each school’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee nominated a male and female representative who best displayed sportsmanship during the calendar year.
‘Iolani alum Mahina Haina also earned the honor from Cal State Northridge’s volleyball team.
