Bars, eateries present benefit
More than two dozen of the island’s top restaurants and beverage houses present delicious food and drink at Saturday’s Great Chefs Fight Hunger, a benefit for Hawaii Foodbank at its warehouse.
Slated to participate are such eateries as d.k Steak House, Top of Waikiki, Cocina, 12th Ave Grill, Chef Chai, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, Hokulani Bake Shop, Cafe Laufer, HASR Bistro, Roy’s Ko Olina, SALT bar & kitchen, Morimoto Waikiki, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Henry Loui’s Restaurant and The Pacific Club.
The event runs 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $150, $200 early admission at 5 p.m. Tables for 10 are $2,500. Visit hawaiifoodbank.org or call Tasha at 836-3600, ext. 244.

Lentil loaf part of vegan meal
Enjoy a vegan and gluten-free community dinner featuring carrot and fennel bisque and a lentil loaf with mushroom gravy, 6 to 8 p.m. March 19 at Church of the Crossroads.
Other menu items include vegetable slaw, brown rice with gomasio, mystery "cheese" cake and hot tea.

Garden is site of cooking class
Avid cook and gardener Alex Manansala of Wahiawa Botanical Garden will hold a cooking demonstration at the garden March 22.
Manansala will show guests how to make summer rolls and crabcakes from 10 a.m. to noon.

Golf tourney aids education
Play a round of golf while supporting local culinary education at the Hawaii Culinary Education Foundation golf tournament April 28 at Kapolei Golf Course.
Of course, there will also be good food. Among the restaurants participating in the spread are: Alan Wong’s, Chef Chai, MW Restaurant, Tango Contempo Cafe, Roy’s Ko Olina, SideStreet on Da Strip, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, Hokulani Bake Shop and Tiki’s Grill & Bar.

‘Nalo Farms owner to speak at church
Emmanuel Church in Kailua is hosting a free talk Thursday by ‘Nalo Farms owner Dean Okimoto, along with a screening of the Hawaii Rural Development Council’s film "Seeds of Hope."
The 35-minute film, about the rise of sustainable, organic and traditional farming in Hawaii, screens at 7 p.m.; Okimoto’s discussion follows.
