Assistant coaches Chris Wiesehan and Phil Rauscher are leaving the University of Hawaii football program.
Wiesehan, who coached the running backs this past season, will coach the offensive linemen at Temple.
Rauscher, who has coached UH’s tight ends the past two years, is departing because of personal reasons.
UH officials declined to comment on both departures.
Wiesehan said he, his wife Renee and son Colton "love Hawaii and the University of Hawaii. But this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up."
UH was expected to renew Wieshan’s one-year contract when it expired on March 31. He earned about $100,000 annually. Instead, Wiesehan’s last day at UH will be Thursday.
Wiesehan was expected to coordinate UH’s pro day on Thursday in San Diego. Brad Jones, UH’s director of football operations, now will run the event, which will be attended by NFL scouts.
UH head coach Norm Chow was UCLA’s offensive coordinator when he worked with Wiesehan and Rauscher. Chow also worked with Rauscher at Utah. In 2012, Chow’s first season as UH head coach, he hired Wiesehan to coach the offensive linemen and Rauscher to work with the tight ends. This past year, Wiesehan coached the running backs and oversaw recruiting of offensive players.
There have been several changes to the UH coaching staff the past two years.
At the end of the 2012 season, Tommy Lee, who held the title of offensive coordinator, retired, and Keith Uperesa, who coached the running backs, accepted the academic coordinator’s position.
Offensive coordinator Aaron Price was fired two days before the opening of the 2013 training camp.
This past December, defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer and linebackers coach Tony Tuioti were told their contracts would not be renewed. Kaumeyer is seeking opportunities in Hawaii and the mainland. Tuioti works for the Cleveland Browns as a quality-control assistant.
Kevin Clune was hired as defensive coordinator. Kurt Gouveia, a Waianae High graduate who played 13 NFL seasons, was named linebackers coach. Jordan Wynn was promoted from graduate assistant to quarterbacks coach with play-calling duties.
