No. 3 SandBows roll past Nebraska
The third-ranked Hawaii sand volleyball team more than rebounded for Wednesday’s tough loss to No. 2 USC with a quick 5-0 sweep of No. 8 Nebraska in a dual match at Queen’s Beach Sandbox on Thursday.
The SandBows (7-2) needed less than 40 minutes to dominate their five straight-set victories over the Huskers (0-2), with UH-2 Katie Spieler-Nikki Taylor finishing first with a 21-7, 21-11 rout of NU-2 Amber and Kadie Rolfzen.
Nebraska, which arrived Wednesday, opened its season against the Women of Troy earlier Thursday with an equally quick loss. USC also won in straight sets, led by SC-2 Alexa Strange-Kelly Claes’ 21-5, 21-10 win over the Rolfzen sisters.
Sand volleyball continues with the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Spring Challenge on Friday and Saturday. Hawaii, USC, Nebraska, Arizona and Hawaii Pacific open pool play of the pairs tournament Friday at 9 a.m., with single-elimination bracket play starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
