Australian-born evangelist Nick Vujicic, who was born without arms or legs, will be taking his anti-bullying message to schools and other venues on Kauai and Oahu this week as part of a three-week tour that started in the islands March 14 and ends April 7 on Maui.
Founder of the nonprofit organization Life Without Limbs, Vujicic has become an inspiration to people around the world, speaking about overcoming obstacles after a suicide attempt at age 10, how he has dealt with bullying and how he still managed to achieve his dreams, according to a news release. Hawaii is the first stop on a national campaign in what he hopes will include nine states.
Suzanne Maurer, local coordinator of the LWL event, said Vujicic’s audience always responds with amazing warmth, including the standing ovation he received following his opening prayer Thursday in the state House of Representatives.
"He really has an anointing," she said. "It’s like he was born to do this."
Since his arrival, Vujicic has addressed the 10th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon on Kauai and spoken before several thousands at the Hawaiian Island Ministries Conference on Thursday and Friday at the Hawai‘i Convention Center, she said.
He is scheduled to speak Sunday at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall; Monday at Waimea High School, Waimea Canyon Intermediate and Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School; and Tuesday at Kapaa High, Kapaa Middle and Kauai High School.
Back on Oahu, Vujicic will speak at 9 a.m. Thursday at Kalaheo High School and Friday at 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. at Waianae High School, which will be live-streamed on his website, www.LifeWithoutLimbs.org.
He will appear on the "Perry & Price Show" on KSSK-FM at 9 a.m. March 29. He speaks at New Hope Oahu on Sand Island Access Road at 5 and 7 p.m. March 29 and at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. March 30. On March 31, Vujicic will visit ‘Iolani School from 7:50 to 8:30 p.m.
On March 30 admission is free to the Catch the Wave of HOPE with Nick Vujicic event at Aloha Stadium from 5 to 8 p.m. Tihati Productions will provide entertainment, including Victor Marx of ATP Ministries (All Things are Possible) and Gregg Hammer of Hammer Time on Krater 96.3 FM radio station.
He is scheduled to speak at eight schools on Maui in April, highlighted by a free event April 6 at the War Memorial Gym in Wailuku at 6 p.m. For more information on his schedule, call Maurer at 286-0264 or email Suzanne.maurer@gmail.com.
