Down one in the bottom of the third inning, Maryknoll’s Bree Soma smacked a two-run homer to give the third-ranked Spartans a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a 3-2 victory over Mid-Pacific on Saturday.
Maryknoll improved to 6-1, tied with Kamehameha atop the ILH softball standings. The Owls fell to 2-3.
Bri Ryan went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the first inning, and starting pitcher Shearyna Labasan, who went the distance to earn the victory, was 2-for-3 with a double.
Sarah Onishi homered for Mid-Pac, which led 2-1 after scoring runs in each of the first two innings. Nicole Lopez went 2-for-2 and drove in the Owls’ other run, and Kylie Uyeda went 2-for-3.
