Car thief injures 2 police officers
Two officers were injured when a 31-year-old car thief tried to run them down while trying to get away in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Officers were attempting to stop the Ewa Beach man, who was speeding on South King Street in a stolen car, police said. The suspect turned into a Tesoro gas station on Punahou Street, injured two officers and hit two vehicles just after 4 p.m. Police did not say how badly the officers were injured.
The suspect was arrested at 4:14 p.m. on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, auto theft and resisting arrest.
Punahou Street and the gas station were blocked off during the afternoon rush hour as police investigated.
2 men die in separate beach incidents
The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies on two men found on separate Oahu beaches Tuesday.
The body of a 49-year-old man was discovered on a beach in Waialua at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Another man, who had been free diving, was found floating in waters off Punaluu about 2 p.m. Tuesday. People pulled the 51-year-old to shore and paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
OCCC escapee nabbed in traffic stop
A routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning ended more than two months of freedom for a 32-year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center escapee.
The inmate failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on Jan. 7.
He was caught at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday when he was pulled over near Pearl City Shopping Center during a traffic stop and was arrested for escape.
