Man held in assault on officer
A 31-year-old Ewa Beach man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a police officer who was trying to arrest him for allegedly speeding and driving a stolen car.
Darryl Higgins was arrested for alleged first-degree attempted murder, resisting arrest and auto theft Tuesday. But prosecutors lodged reduced charges of first-degree attempted assault and assault on a law enforcement officer. He also was charged with auto theft and a couple of drug offenses. His bail was set at $250,000.
Police officers were attempting to stop the suspect, who was speeding on South King Street in a stolen car, when he turned into the Tesoro gas station on Punahou Street near Washington Middle School. The suspect tried to flee on foot but got back into his car when he saw police officers.
When the suspect tried to drive away, he dragged one of the arresting police officers, police said. The officer did not need medical treatment, police said.
Texas sex assault yields arrest
A man on the run for three years in connection with the sexual assault of a 9-year-old child in Texas was arrested Thursday by federal and state agents in Kapolei, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.
Adrian Gamble, 42, of Galveston, Texas, was taken into custody at a Komohana Street home at about 10:30 a.m.
According to the release, Gamble engaged in sexual contact with a 9-year-old child who was under his care on Sept. 20, 2008. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Gamble for indecency with a child and sexual contact in March 2011, but Gamble had already left the state at the time.
